How can you help out at NDHD?

There are many jobs you can do to help the Club. Volunteering helps our competition days run more smoothly, teaches you more about the sport of dressage by giving you insight into how the days are run, and perhaps a bird's eye view from the judge's car with commentary (if you pencil). It's also a great opportunity to meet other riders and enthusiasts. And don't worry if it is your first time, there will be someone to guide you through.

Here are just a few of the jobs you may like to help with:
  • Pencilling - You will assist the Dressage judge to write scores and comments for each competitors test. It is a great opportunity to see a test from a judge's perspective, a very valuable learning experience.
  • Gear check - A great way to meet every competitor on the day, enjoy his or her horse and presentation and check out some flash bridles and attire! The EA equipment rules are provided and training can be given on what safety gear is mandatory for each event.
  • Test collection/running -  The primary responsibility of a runner to get completed score sheets from the judges cars to the scoring office in a timely manner. Runners may also be asked to deliver messages, refreshments, and supplies to the judges. We can never have enough runners, you help keep the day moving along and the scoring up to speed, keeps you fit and you can do it for a long or short period.
  • Catering - Bake a cake, some biscuits or a slice to keep our judges and scorers going on the day.
  • First Aid - If you have a current medical qualification, you may be able to help at competitions with the First Aid.
  • Scorers - we use the EA scoring software and can teach anyone interested how to enter the test scores on the computer and print off the eagerly waited result sheets.
  • Helping in the Office - on Competition days the office can be quite busy
  • Fundraising - you don't even need to know about horses for this one! Raffles, dinners, sponsorship.
  • Join the Committee - Now this is a big one! Some responsibility here, but all help is welcome and we have jobs to suit all interests and time availability.
  • Helping out someone already on the Committee - Everyone on the Committee would love an assistant ... making cuppas at clinics, the list is endless.

Contact anyone on the Committee to find out how you can help today!
